Mary's Story

I live in Fairbanks, Alaska. First came up here in about 87. Use to commute between here & Denver, Las Vegas, & Los Angeles. Moved permanently in 94. I work for Warbelow's Air Ventures in the cargo department after spending 3 1/2 yrs as ticket agent. It's a commuter airline that fly passengers, freight & mail to over 20 villages in Alaska. Most without roads. At Warbelow's we also have a Medavac service with our own "flying ambulance" complete with paramedics & nurses, we also have a flight school & offer tours to remote villages. In Sept we offer polar bear tours to Katovik with a guarentee of seeing polar bears or your money back. I've lived without running water for 2 yrs, rode bicycle year-round, even at 35 below zero, watched the Northern Lights dance, had moose hang in my yard & many other adventures associated with Alaska. I have 2 dogs, Chinook & Trouble, both wolf hybrids. I love the Alaskan lifestyle, the Native Culture & the unique assortment of people who live here. I attended the University of Alaska - Fairbanks & have a degree in Paralegal Studies. I also studied Japanese & American Sign Language. Spent several years in the Air Force. Three of them were spent overseas at RAF Upper Heyford, England where I just happened to be stationed with Tom Cone II, class of 75. I'm the proud mother of 2 sons, one who is currently enrolled in Community College of Denver & the other who is continuing his college degree while working for Ball Aerospace in Boulder. I'm extremely proud of both, who like their mom is living life on their own terms. I've have a very lucky & blessed life. My parents are getting ready to celebrate their 54th wedding anniversary. I'm blessed with the presence of both my sister Susie & brother Joh...Expand for more
n. I am Auntie Pie to 2 wonderful nephews & 2 beautiful nieces. Worked many different jobs, bartending, taking care of horses on a horse farm, running tanning salons & pull tab businesses, worked in a gift shop that specialzed in Native Arts (Ivory carvings, baleen baskets, etc) & tourism in Fairbanks for 15+ yrs.. I've been blessed to still have my health, sense of humor & sanity. I consider myself to be an "old punk rocker." who loves punk & metal music. I also enjoy bowling, horseback riding, reading, watching movies (horror & zombie are my fav) traveling & working at my job. Yes I'm probably an overachieving work-aholic. It's not unusual for me to work 2 jobs in the summer. All in all I've done & seen things over my life that I never imagined I would do or see. Traveled all over Europe, been to remote villages & lived in several different places in the US. My "bucket list" includes seeing Austraila, riding abicycle from Johannesburg Africa to Cairo, bungee jump the world's highest bungee jump at Victoria Falls, visit Japan, raise miniature horses and drive a lamborghini. I'm have many good Native & Eskimo friends who have shown me how to live a subsistence life-style in accordance with their cultures. I've eaten moose head soup, moose meat, beaver, bear, caribou, halibut & muk-tuk (whale blubber marinated in whale's blood). I have meet & become friends with people from all over the world, Japan, France, England, Australia, South America, Canada, Russia & of course the good ole USA. As Joe Walsh so aptly put it, "Lifes been good to me so far!" Update - it's with a sad & heavy heart that I must say we lost the dog Trouble last night. He passed unexepectedly. He was 10 yrs old & will be missed by all of us. RIP Trouble!
